Kart Mini Australia Race Report November 2 2007

November 2/3 2007. ELKC Puckapunyal Vic. Australian Leopard Final

The first 3 days of the meeting went better than we could imagine. On the Thursday and Friday practice we were the fastest by at least 3 /10ths and knew we could go quicker.

In the first race on Saturday Matt started from 18th and easily finished 4th with the fastest time of the race on lap 10. Heat 2 he started from grid 4 and went straight to the lead from the start but on lap 2 broke a reed and slipped back to 3rd, still posting the fastest lap on lap 8. When Matt came back in we also found the flex had shortened by 6mm. His fastest time was 44.6 and the closest competition was 44.8, he was sure without the broken reed and the right pipe length he could have gone a 44.2.

Things were looking really good for the finals on Sunday till it rained. We hadn't had a chance to test the kart in the rain so it was going to make things difficult. In the Pre Final he was running 6th and tried to make a pass at the end of the straight and spun off, dislodging the chain so it was a DNF. The final he started from grid 13 and was up to 7th after 3 laps when the drivers in front of him had a collision and trying to avoid them he spun putting him back to last. It was just too big a gap to make up in that class of field. He finished the final in 12th.

It was a long way to go for the rain to spoil the finals for us, but we were more than happy with what we achieved in our 2nd race meeting. We don't really know exactly what the kart is capable of yet, over the Christmas break we plan on doing alot more testing.

Matt really believes with some fine tuning the kart can be alot quicker.
